2014 MEA Tax Information

2014 Income Tax Deduction

$698.00 for full-time. This includes 8 months (January-August) of 13-14 dues ($557.60) and 2 months (November-December) of 14-15 dues ($140.40).

$349.00 for half-time. This includes 8 months (January-August) of 13-14 dues ($278.80) and 2 months (November-December) of 14-15 dues ($70.20).

**Total dues paid for 2014 can be found on your final paycheck stub from December 2014.

Ashford to hold Education Press Conference

MEA Endorses Millard School Board Candidates

The MEA Political Action Committee has recommended and endorsed four candidates for the 2014 Millard Public School Board elections.  The four candidates are Dave Anderson, Mike Kennedy, Pat Ricketts, and John Vyhlidal.  The MEA PAC interview team felt that all four candidates would make great school board members, bringing unique perspectives to the board and helping to advocate for the students of Millard.  I have included contact information below if you would like to work with any of the candidates on their campaign or to learn more about them.

NSEA Negotiations Training

Are you interested in learning more about the negotiations process?  Would you like to serve on the MEA Negotiations Committee that helps advise and guide the MEA Negotiations Team as we work through negotiations?  If interested, the first step is to sign up for NSEA Regional Advocacy Conference that will be held on September 22nd from 5:15-9:00pm at Upstream West.  You must register by September 17th, to have an accurate dinner count.  The link is below to register, but if you have any questions please contact Paul Schulte at meapresident@hotmail.com .

Educators for Matt Lathrop Event

All MEA members are invited to attend a meet and greet with Legislative District 20 candidate Matt Lathrop on Thursday, September 11th, 2014 at McKenna's Blues Hall.  District 20 does cover part of the Millard Public School district, so please consider attending.  Matt Lathrop has been endorsed by NSEA.  Hope to see you there!!

Are you interested in the political process? Do you want to get more involved?

If you answered yes to either of those questions, then this is the right time for you to get more involved.  If you contribute to the MEA PAC (Political Action Committee) Fund, you are eligible to serve on the Millard School Board Candidate Interviews.  During the interviews, you will have a chance to visit with each candidate on their views of education in Millard.  Then the committee will make a recommendation to the MEA membership on which candidates to support by endorsing the candidate as well as contributing to their campaign.

MEA Teacher Scholarship

MEA members, are you currently working on your graduate hours?  Would you like help paying for your classes?  The MEA Teacher Scholarship is available to current members during the fall, spring, and summer semesters.  The Board of Directors randomly select two teachers with 1-5 years in the district, and then two teachers with 6+ years in the district.  After completing their class and submitting their grades, each scholarship winner receives a $500 check.

MEA Crystal Apple Award 2014-15

Do you know an MEA member that goes above and beyond in the classroom?  We are looking for nominations for the Crystal Apple Award, a quarterly recognition for outstanding MEA members throughout the district.  Please download the application and submit your nominee, who will be eligible to win the Crystal Apple Award as well as other assorted gifts and prizes.  For more information, please contact Tom Whisinnand at tmwhisinnand@mpsomaha.org.
